  We introduced new patent evaluation index “PI Score(-)”. PI Score(-) indicates broader but less reference cited patents.

4. Improvement Patent Viewer

  With these improvements, the user can quickly and comprehensively find strong patents based on scope of patent rights and citation references. To use, just choose sorting based on PI score from the search results summary.

  The difference between number of cited (impact factor) and PI Score is as follows.

• Citation index: The number of times it has been reference cited in other patents. This index indicates invention’s technological value.
• PI score: This evaluates the scope of the rights in the patent application using text mining techniques. This index indicates the broadness of patent rights.

  For prior art search, high number of cited patents are important. On the other hand, for patent infringement research (before product launch), broadness high PI score patents are important. Of course there are many patents evaluated high both number of cited and PI score.
